A new coffee table for Mom

After picking out the wood I experimented with different leg sizes and locations

The legs were then cut, planed, and sanded

I then filled all the cracks and holes in the table top an legs with resin and removed any excess material.

Sanding and smoothing the tabletop

To join the legs and table top, I made a mortise hole for alignment, a small pocket for added stability with a router, and straigtened the edges with a chisel.

I then cut several small rectangular prisms to test the mortise and tendon fit. Once I settled on a size, I used paint to mark the corresponding location and size onto the legs before cutting tendons into them.

Final fit check before gluing.

I taped up the legs and surounding tabletop areas. Once I poured the glue, I packed sawdust from previous cuts to fill in any extra space in the joints, and loaded the table to ensure everything dried correctly.

I coated the table in tung oil finish to bring out the natural colors and provide some protection from wear.
